Frequently asked questions

What is Glucene?

Glucene is a glucose monitoring companion that reads data from your continuous glucose monitor (CGM) via Nightscout and displays it natively across iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, Apple TV, and the web. One account gives you access on every screen.

Which CGM sensors are supported?

Glucene works with any sensor that feeds data into Nightscout, including:

  • Dexcom G6, G7, and ONE
  • FreeStyle Libre 1, 2, and 3 (via LibreLinkUp or xDrip+)
  • Medtronic Guardian (via uploaders)

If your sensor data reaches Nightscout, Glucene can display it.

How do I connect my CGM to Glucene?

After creating your Glucene account, go to Settings and add a device source. You'll enter your Nightscout URL and token (or LibreLinkUp/Dexcom Share credentials). Glucene connects to your source and starts displaying readings within seconds.

Is Glucene free?

Glucene is free to use during the current preview period. We'll announce pricing well in advance before any changes.

How is my data protected?

Your glucose readings and connection credentials are encrypted at rest and only decrypted in memory to serve your own signed-in requests. Passwords are stored as salted hashes. We run no advertising, no third-party tracking, and we never sell or share your data. See our full privacy policy for details.

Which platforms does Glucene support?

Glucene is available on:

  • iOS — iPhone app with Home Screen widgets, Lock Screen widgets, Live Activity, and Dynamic Island
  • watchOS — Apple Watch app with complications on every watch face
  • macOS — native Mac app with menu bar extra and desktop widgets
  • tvOS — Apple TV app for ambient monitoring on your big screen
  • CarPlay — glucose at a glance while driving
  • Web — responsive web app at app.glucene.com
How often does the glucose reading update?

The app updates in real time when open. Widgets and complications refresh every 5 minutes (aligned with CGM reading cadence). The Live Activity on iPhone updates in near-real-time via push notifications.

What are IOB and COB?

IOB (Insulin on Board) is the estimated active insulin remaining from recent boluses. COB (Carbs on Board) is the estimated unabsorbed carbohydrates from recent meals. Glucene computes these using an exponential decay model for insulin and a linear absorption model for carbs, based on what you log.

How do I log insulin, meals, or other events?

Use the Quick Log feature in the app (available on iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch). You can configure presets for your most common doses and meals in Settings for one-tap logging.

Can I share my glucose with family or caregivers?

Yes. You can invite followers from within the app. They'll see your real-time glucose on their own devices. You can revoke access at any time.

My Apple Watch complication shows "---" with no data

This usually means the complication hasn't received data yet. Try these steps:

  • Open the Glucene app on your Apple Watch at least once after signing in.
  • Make sure the Glucene iPhone app is signed in and has a working connection (the watch receives its configuration from the phone).
  • Wait up to 5 minutes for the complication to refresh.

If it still doesn't show data, try removing and re-adding the complication to your watch face.

How do I set up alerts for high or low glucose?

Go to Settings in the app and configure your alert thresholds for high, low, and urgent-low values. You can customise which devices receive alerts and set quiet hours. Predicted-low alerts use your recent trend to warn you before you actually go low.

Can I change my display unit between mg/dL and mmol/L?

Yes. In Settings, change your preferred glucose unit. The change syncs across all your devices automatically, including Apple Watch and widgets.

How do I delete my account and data?

Go to Settings in the app and choose "Delete Account." This permanently removes your account, all stored readings, logs, and connection credentials. You can also export your data before deleting.

Is Glucene a medical device?

No. Glucene is for informational purposes only and is not a medical device. It does not provide medical advice. Always consult your healthcare team for treatment decisions.
